Go Forward, Support….. The Cure |

In the winter of 2007, the officers of SUWRFC met to discuss areas where they could raise awareness in the community regarding women’s health. The officers decided unanimously to focus there efforts on breast health and defeating breast cancer. After receiving buy-in from the club members and alumni, the officers approached the Central New York Chapter of Komen for the Cure. A partnership was formed and the members quickly started strategizing on ways to get the message out. Immediately a “Go Forward, Support the Cure” bracelets were made and sales began. The officers also had shirts banners made for all games. The biggest initiative was the coordination and playing of the nations first “Game for the Cure” . The game took place in October of 2007 with our Chancellor Dr. Nancy Cantor headlining the pre-game festivities. Although the result of the game was not in favor of Syracuse, the two teams combined to raise $3,000. It was also decided that the two schools would make this an annual tradition and alternate venues. As of the end of 2008 the schools have combined for over $5,500 that have been donated to the Komen for the Cure Foundation.
